Make A Fresh Start on Foot Care In 2023
With a new year brings new resolutions. Our team of specialists at Knight Foot & Ankle wanted to remind our OK patients that incorporating simple, daily habits that consider their lower extremities can have a positive impact on overall podiatric health.
Here are 5 habits we recommend for happier, healthier feet in 2023:
Wear the right footwear for each activity. Sports and fitness shoes are specifically designed to provide your lower extremities with protection and support. Don’t take long walks in chunky, fashionable boots. Wear boots that keep your feet protected from the winter weather and support your ankles down icy paths. Our specialists recommend regularly checking and replacing footwear.
Swear off do-it-yourself” activities. Trying to get rid of a wart or removing an ingrown toenail at home can actually cause more damage than good. You may think “This is simple. I can take care of this at home.” Minimize your risk of infection or further foot and ankle problems and leave podiatric care to the podiatrists. Visit with one of our board-certified podiatrists at one of our offices!
Limit the amount of time you spend barefoot. With many of us working from home, or our children on holiday break may have the fire going and choose to remain barefoot indoors. However, walking barefoot daily (even indoors) can cause the arch of your feet to become flat. Our specialists recommend wearing supportive slippers indoors instead of walking around barefoot.
Check your feet daily. Regularly inspecting your feet can help you quickly spot changes that occur in your lower extremities and even catch certain conditions as they develop. Our specialists recommend that in your daily foot check, to keep an eye on areas in the lower extremities that appear to have new growths, bruises, or wounds that have not healed. Report anything concerning to our office by calling (405)-513-0386.
Don’t ignore foot pain. This tip may go-foot-and-foot with the above tip (see what we did there?) One of the most important and most effective resolutions you can make for your podiatric health is to regularly check your feet. If you experience any foot or ankle pain or discomfort, don’t ignore it. Most conditions that are treated early on, will recover quickly and with less invasive technologies. Contact our office if you are ever experiencing chronic discomfort in your lower extremities.
